White Circle Productions

We're filmmakers to the core and back in 2005 we moved into a little office in sunny Bournemouth with the hope of being enthused by a growing creative community… but that's not to say a beach didn’t influence that decision as well. This is our blog.

Ride to the Rawk - New web commercial for extreme sports retailer

In this latest latest web commercial for extreme sports retailer Rawk.com, we experimented with the pavement level perspective of a street riders world.

The brief was quite simply to find the common values shared between a collection of different sports and when it came to finding the common denominator between skateboarding, scootering and skating it was obvious that the shared kicks were all in the the movement. Whilst each sport has varied levels of speed and agility, the rush achieved through the movement itself was ultimately established through research early on as the foundation stone of participation in such activities.

From this, the Ride to the Rawk film was conceived; a concept that would allow us to capture the essence of each sports movement whilst transitioning seamlessly between their typical environments in a fun and engaging way.

The footage was captured from a uniquely modified car rig that actually held the camera in an upside down position several inches away from the surface of the road at each location. Subsequently, when the rushes were brought back into post production, the team found themselves initially having to crock their heads to preview each clip to capture before it was possible to flip and edit with the correct perspective.

Amigo Loans - Short Format Corporate Doc

Amigo Loans approached us with a brief to produce a series of films telling the stories of those whose lives have been changed for the better since coming into contact with the company. From the word go, it was just one of those projects we couldn’t wait to get stuck into.

Amigo offers individuals struggling to raise finance through conventional methods, a genuine alternative in loans back by a guarantor with an asset to secure against it. In the first film in the series we spent time with Jon and Brenda Barker, who told us how difficult it is to raise finance for a small business in a post 2008 climate.

Craft films seem to be everywhere at the moment and we’ve got no shortage leaving the nest of the studio right now.

Loads of caffeine fueled fun was had working on this promo for coffee shop chain The Boston Tea Party  with Director Ben Risk and we think the film captures the fun and independent values that the brand is keen to maintain as it’s grows and expands into 2013.

We were delighted to get the chance to work for the first time with Echoic Audio on the project (www.echoicaudio.comwho succeeded in delivering a deliciously quirky and entertaining sound track to make our jobs in post considerably easier.

Grab yourself a frothy Capuchino and take a watch.

Well it’s been an explosive start to 2013 with WC staff returning from various continents around the world to find lots of lovely briefs waiting for them!

Nevertheless we’ve all enjoyed taking a break this week to watch our latest short Christmas film for Colten Care and reflect on the ten day period it was developed, shot and delivered in.

The finished result is a warm and endearing insight into what a Colten Care Christmas entails and the consistency of effort that is maintained all year round.

It might be January but take a moment to dip back into those festive feelings that have all but vanished in the first working week of 2013.

We were recently approached by leading mobile technology company Clove to develop a fun little animation celebrating their 20th Birthday. What better way to do so than with a nostalgic look back at 20 years of smart phones!

Whilst the video only took a couple of days to put together it has gone on to amuse several thousand viewers across an array of platforms.

Go on, have a watch and see if your once ‘state of the art’ brick made the final cut!

Back in September we were commissioned to put together a short documentary about a specialist dementia care home and the lives of those affected by the condition.

With dementia care high on the governments agenda right now, we found a lot of relatives willing to open up to provide a genuine and honest insight into the journey of  moving a family member into a home. As a result, we were able to capture several incredibly intimate interviews that ultimately ensured the tone of the film was sincere but informative nonetheless.

With specialist care providers Colten Care we hope to produce a series of several more films on the subject in the new year.

The first film in our latest series for Farrow & Ball has gone live and we’re very pleased with it indeed.

The primary aim of our involvement in the campaign was to inspire individuals to down their TV remotes, step away from that peak time interior decorating series and get cracking with the beautification of their home interiors.

‘How to Hang’ features the beloved painter decorator Keith who previously appeared in our last Farrow & Ball film ‘The fable of the painted door’. With a rising natural hit count on YouTube, it definitely looks as though Keith is again successfully motivating UK homeowners to get “inspired by colour”!

We’ve been working on the assembly of several films recently all about craft and artisan-ship and as such have been keeping our ear firmly to the video wall for similar thematic content.

This short doc ‘The Sound of Dust’ does everything a good film about craftsmanship should do in its honest and insightful portrayal of surfboard maker Tim Stamps and his business the aptly named Surfboards by Stamps. There is little focused on outside of Tim’s methodology and whilst we’d love to know more about what really makes the guy tick, it’s clear that his most visually engaging facet is his unique approach to surfboard shaping. Some of the 60 frames per second shots of glue oozing and paint splashing really go some way to capturing the mysticism of the workshop and the beauty in the process, something we will definitely be striving to achieve in our upcoming series for Farrow & Ball.

Can’t disclose too much right this moment but they’ll be hitting web screens in the next month so not long to wait!

Only a few days to go before the start of the premier league season and the country is still on a complete high following what were a historic Olympics games for Team GB.

Role on Sky Sports to run one of their usual ground-breaking, heart thumping “Football’s back” campaigns. This year however, as opposed to focusing on the ‘money’, the players, the game etc. the focus is on what really makes the sport of football and sport in general so special….the fans, the people.

Flipping the cameras from pitch to stand is a truly ingenious move in this latest ad from the broadcaster that walks out to a warming chorus of the Rolling Stones ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’.

The piece truly capitalizes on the togetherness felt throughout the nation at this moment in time and stands out as a real bench mark for brands trying to reconnect with their audiences in the wake of a very human universal Olympic experience.

So go on, watch the ad here and keep the nation roaring on together: http://www.marketingweek.co.uk/news/sky-sports-uses-fans-to-welcome-back-premier-league-football/4003175.article

After what were two pretty epic days in the Bournemouth International Centre we can finally unveil our Time Lapse film of the construction of the new roller rink commissioned by leading extreme sports retailer Rawk.com.

Several cameras utilized tilt shift photography as part of the process with the ‘ghost skaters’ being recorded as separate plates and keyed in using various rotascoping techniques.

Got another fun month ahead of extreme sports shoots so the rail wax is well and truly in abundance in the WC office right now!
